As of September 2019, Facebook is still the most popular social media platform with 2.45 billion monthly active users worldwide. However, other platforms are growing at a faster pace. In fact, Instagram has now reached 1 billion monthly active users while Snapchat boast 190 million daily active users.

So which social media platforms are most popular? It really depends on who you ask and what demographics you’re looking at. For example, Facebook is still the most popular social media platform among adults in the United States while Snapchat is more popular among teenagers.

Facebook

According to recent statistics, Facebook is the most popular social media platform with over 2 billion active users. That’s nearly a quarter of the world’s population! And it’s not just adults who are using Facebook; over 75% of teenagers in the US say they use it.

Facebook has become such an integral part of our lives that it’s hard to imagine life without it. For many of us, it’s a way to keep in touch with friends and family, share news and experiences, and stay up-to-date on what’s going on in the world.

But what do all those hours spent on Facebook add up to? According to one estimate, the average person spends nearly an hour each day on Facebook – that adds up to over 5 years over a lifetime! So what exactly are we doing on Facebook all those hours?

Twitter

Twitter is a microblogging and social networking service on which users post and interact with messages known as “tweets”. Registered users can post, like, and retweet tweets, but unregistered users can only read them. As of 2019, Twitter had over 321 million monthly active users.

Twitter usage statistics show that the platform has been growing steadily since its launch in 2006. In 2010, there were about 106 million registered accounts and 50 million tweets per day. By 2013, those numbers had increased to 500 million and 400 million respectively. In 2017, Twitter averaged 330 million monthly active users. And as of 2019, there are over 321 monthly active users.

The vast majority of Twitter users are between the ages of 18 and 29 (37%), followed by those 30-49 (28%).

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional social media platform with nearly 706 million members in over 200 countries and regions. According to a recent report, LinkedIn members are 2x more likely to be in the top quartile of their income bracket than the general population and 4x more likely to be decision makers. The report also found that LinkedIn is used by 79% of professionals for business purposes.

While LinkedIn is most popular with professionals, it is also growing in popularity with non-professionals. A recent study found that LinkedIn is now used by 30% of online adults, up from 24% in 2015. The study also found that LinkedIn is particularly popular with college graduates and those who are employed full-time.

Pinterest

According to a 2018 study, Pinterest is the third most popular social media platform in the United States, behind Facebook and Twitter. The study found that 73 percent of U.S. adults use at least one social media platform, and that Pinterest is used by 42 percent of those adults.

The study also found that women are more likely to use Pinterest than men, and that the platform is most popular among adults ages 30-49. In terms of income, Pinterest users are more likely to have an annual household income of $75,000 or more. And finally, the study found that people who live in rural areas are just as likely to use Pinterest as those who live in urban or suburban areas.

Instagram

A new study has found that Instagram is now the most popular social media platform. The study, which was conducted by the Pew Research Center, found that 59% of American adults use Instagram. This is up from just 32% in 2015.

The study also found that Instagram is particularly popular with younger adults. 75% of 18-29 year olds use the platform, compared to just 54% of 30-49 year olds and 36% of 50-64 year olds.

Interestingly, the study found that usage of Instagram has grown across all income levels and educational attainment levels over the past four years. In 2015, only 32% of adults with an annual household income of less than $30,000 used Instagram. Today, that number has grown to 53%.

Conclusion

As of September 2019, Facebook is still the most popular social media platform with 2.45 billion monthly active users. However, there has been a decrease in usage and engagement from younger users in recent years. Instead, platforms like Snapchat and Instagram are becoming more popular with teenagers and young adults. While Facebook’s user base is still growing overall, it’s clear that other social media platforms are starting to catch up in terms of popularity.
